So capping all benefits at 1% is fair, even though food and energy may increase annually at a higher rate? IDS added that benefits payable to pensioners, including the Winter Fuel Allowance, were not being capped because older people had “less flexibility” and did not have the option of finding work.
So is capping benefits simply a punishment for not having a job?
I suggest that we should all queue up outside IDS’s house at night to see if he really can sleep!
Its all well and good the Government capping housing benefit, which instantly smacks of social cleansing in the perceived prestigious areas. Apart from the obvious creating them and us mentality – did this ever go away – it has far more reaching consequences, that will have major impact on the country’s future.
Yesterday I found out that approximatly 17,000 families have been forced to move to Croydon as a result of Westminster, Battersea, Chelsea, Kensington etc capping their benefits. Now there are potentialy 17,000 children that need to find a local school place. Either schools need to be expanded or children have to travel, either way education will suffer.
