evil tories, hegemony, RMT, strike, Union

If (when) people start moaning about the inconvenience that the tube strike will bring from 9pm tonight, just remember two things:

It is meant to cause inconvenience and as much disruption as possible

Be thankful if you work somewhere, that isn’t cutting jobs and services.

People never seem to understand that losing a days money is difficult for a lot of people but being united is something more important. If you join a union you need to stand up and be counted when called upon, it is the only thing that gives it strength; together we stand, divided we fall.

The Tories don’t just hate unions, they hate communities and any opposing group that may present itself as a united front to any policy that they wish to bring in. Unity is something that is the Tories enemy – they promote individualism and centralisation of policy. Entrepreneurship was about the understanding that you would be quite happy to stab your brother in the back if required – wait didn’t Ed do that to David!

This is why the Unions should form their own political party and challenge the hegemony of Etonian Oxbridge politics.

Will affected counties bid for Independence after Environmental Agency states ‘Towns are more important’

cornish independence, floods, hegemony, republic

imagesChairman Lord Smith, the head of the Environment Agency has said while agricultural land was important, government rules placed the highest priority on lives and homes

…..this involves tricky issues of policy and priority: town or country, front rooms or farmland?

Flood defences cost money; and how much should the taxpayer be prepared to spend on different places, communities and livelihoods – in Somerset, Lincolnshire, Yorkshire, or East Anglia?

I’m sure this will kick start ‘independence for Cornwall’ and I’m sure many other areas may follow suit, as they all know that Westminster is London centric. The current flood situation due to the bad weather highlights that the hegemony of Westminster needs to be broken up and decentralised. Budgets should be given to local councils to manage their own affairs under the guidance of the local community.

Metahistory – Using a different style of discourse could Mandela have done even more.

hegemony, Malcolm X, mandela, martin luther king

This is not a criticism of Nelson Mandela, but an attempt to highlight what I want to achieve with this blog, by using Mandela as an example.

One could argue that Mandela was very calculated and precise to get across his vision of integration, peace and harmony; whilst respected world wide South Africa is still a mess, albeit not as much as a mess as it was before his release.

But what if, when Mandela came out of prison he came out advocating a different means to unite South Africa, what if he didn’t turn the cheek, but burnt down all that supported and benefited from apartheid. What if he didn’t play nice, where would South Africa be now. Some would argue that he would just be another dictator, but I believe Mandela (like Lenin) was stronger than that. Power doesn’t have to corrupt, but it takes a rare individual to be able to deal with it.

I believe Mandela was a man who could have done this, but chose a path that brought peace and the limitations that may have come along with that. Mandela was more of a Martin Luther King in comparison to a Malcolm X. It could be suggested that the fact that Mandela wasn’t assassinated was due that the reality that he never really threatened the white anglo saxon hegemony of the established capitalist system in the western world.

The G20 simply reinforces the crimes of capitalism.

g20, hegemony, lie, myths

At the moment most scandals that the media report; fake goods, tax avoidance, fuel prices are simply a symptom of the root problem. When you tell people that the goal of life is to make as much money as possible, even if that means to the detriment of others, why should we be surprised when a company / individual is criticised for doing what they are told. These days, it appears that people believe that they will gain respect if they have a big car, big tele and wear the right clothes – they have been sold the lie perfectly.

The G20 is when the leaders from chosen countries (is that decided by how much America likes them as I don’t see North Korea represented), sit around and discuss how the rich get richer or how charitable they all are because they discuss poverty (but do fuck all about it).

The 2-day-long G20 Leaders’ Summit will result in the adoption of the G20 Leaders Joint Statement that will reflect the G20’s intentions and concrete mechanisms for further work on stimulating strong, sustainable and balanced growth.

Statement from G20 website

People are struggling to afford to live but they continue to allow companies to exploit our basic needs (gas, electricity, water & travel). Our government continually cut services whilst we pay the same, whilst surely it would be better to pay a little more and keep what we have. The services we have are there to protect people when life takes a turn for the worse, but if you are rich you don’t need this do you!

Fuck G20 and the leaders that take part, it simply legitimises the hegemony on the workers of the world.
