Ffred Jones, free wales, Leanne Wood, local elections, Plaid cymru

Wales is a great country, and I really enjoyed living in Aberysthwyth although only for one year. Aberystwyth, is the heart of Plaid Cymru, or so I was told so I have always had a slight interest in the progression of the Welsh Party. Why should Wales be run essentially from London?

With George Galloway winning in a “safe” Labour seat in Bradford recentley, it is going to be interesting to see what the local elections in Wales will bring forth. On 3 May 2012, Wales will have a perfect opportunity to show what they think of the major parties and hopefully put in Plaid Cymru councils in 21 out of the 22 councils. Ffred Jones, the party’s campaign manager, is quoted as:

Local councils have more power than we think to make a difference to our lives. To make Wales stronger economically councils have to pull their weight and use their powers to change lives for the better: to create work, stimulate business, encourage investment, prioritise education and take care of the environment. As a nation, we can build resilience to future threats by building up a network of Plaid councils run for the people and not the political parties, creating local economies that put people first.

The smaller the components of the country become, the easier it is to give the means of production back to the people, to make the area work for the people.

council house sell off, Plaid cymru, Thatcher, welsh national anthem

This morning Nicky Campbell hosted a ‘discussion’ on the legacy on Margaret Thatcher. John Redwood was on talking about how successful she was in moving Britain out the fo the ‘dark’ 70’s. I don’t think either of them expected the passion of the callers that follows – destroyed council housing, short term tenure’s – both led to instability within communities and restricted long term income for local authorities. One women was in tears to which John Redwood expressed his disbelief that 23 years on people are still blaming Thatcher for things.

Yes the same John Redwood who was made secretary of state for Wales and was caught mouth the Welsh national anthem when he clearly didn’t know the words. In fact  Adam Price, an MP for Plaid Cymru, was quotes as describing him as “The most bizarre political appointment since Caligula made his horse a Senator.”

History she retorted, we celebrate the Pankhursts don’t we, Thatcher is part of history and she shoul be accountable. Wiley John Redwood replied, Yes the  suffragettes did wonders for women’s equality, but made the error of asking, if the caller was proud to have the first woman Prime Minister. I was she snarled but now I’m ashamed.

Absolutely brilliant, you couldn’t make it up.

Scotland to be free – if England lets them!

The cabinet are currently in talks to decide whether or not a referendum on independance for Scotland should actually be binding. How arrogant, it’s no wonder the scottish don’t want to be part of England. Currently any referendum held in Scotland is only advisory and not binding by law, however our gracious Prime Minister is discussing whether he will allow it to be implemented; if he does it will be an option of in or out, and not partial independance.

I always have sympathy for any group whose goals can only be achieved by the grace of those you are fighting against (It is why the black panthers didn’t allow any white supporters within its movement). It is important to distinguish between achieving your goals regardless of  any oppostion, or being granted your goals within the terms defined by the oppostion. I don’t blame Scotland wanting to be independant, the Tories definately don’t represent the needs of anyone else but the city, the priveilidged and rich. Wales will be next and then maybe Cornwall, who under the watchful eye of Plaid Cymru, are capaigning to be treated as a celtic country.

I’d love to see London split next, each borough being guided by an annually appointed cooperative, which would be represenative of the people that live within it.

Fuck Parliament and it Etonian Oxbridge bias whose policies mainly favour the City and big business.
