>I want to use this blog not only to keep people upto date with news around South Norwood and my own political rants, but also use it to highlight the history around the area.
I never knew that South Norwood Lake was originally created one of the lakes created to ensure the canal linking West Croydon with New Cross had a constant supply of water. Unfortunately the canal didn’t last, only lasting 27 years, and it became the first canal to be decommissioned by Act of Parliament in 1836. You can see it’s legacy around South Norwood with the boating lake, and many pubs named after it original customers.
The line from London Bridge to West Croydon follows a lot of the original canal path.
