I have just come back from wandering around the annual South Norwood Arts Festival (SNAF), and it bemused me how people who have religion feel the need to share it with other people. I arrived to the sounds of a very jovial choir singing that they are all going to heaven because they are really nice people, but why do they feel the need to share.
Religion is a simplest form of oppression, convince people that if they don’t do what you say then you will burn in hell; a very cushy job if you are the one making the rules. The best bit about religion is that it doesn’t have any evidence or concrete proof that what they are saying is true but make you so fearful for not believing that you might as well edge your bets just in case.
I went to a midnight mass several years ago, and listened to a priest tell everyone how they were sinners and should help the poor and the weak; well the big fucking gold cross above his head would buy plenty for those who are unfortunate. Why not turn the church into a hostel and the weekly collection used to feed and clothe the homeless, and then raise up our hands in prayer!
