I have just read a wonderful editorial in the ‘i’ (I’m afraid I can’r remember the editor’s name and I’m too lazy to get up and get the paper) about the only people who complain about the high rate of tax is those who don’t actually have to worry about money. It made me think about how much we choose are politics based on personal circumstance rather than principle’s. I have known so many people move from radical, militant views to that more akin to self interest and greed, just because they have started earning some money.
Look at Adele, down to earth girl with a great talent, give her a big royalty cheque with 50% deducted for tax (yes it was quite large) she starts moaning about the 50% she’s lost rather than the money and opportunity that she currently has. It takes a lot for someone to remain true to their principles when they have a lot of money thrust upon them, I don’t know if I could do it, but I would love to try.
