I applaud the efforts of everyone coming together to protest against the alleged evils of Britain’s widely read tabloid, it’s really heartening that things can change as a result of a collective and not an organisation or movement led by an idividual.
“It does however look as though a random collection of loosely organised people with no one leader have come together to deal a blow to the finances of a powerful media organisation.” BBC News
All this aside I think the question that should be asked is ‘Is anyone suprised at what the News of the World has done?’. All the Sunday tabloids are full of sex or scandal, and if they are really lucky a sex scandal! Thousands of people by this paper every week, giving them a full mandate to try and unearth the ultimate scoop that will blow others out of the water. DON’T BUY THIS PAPER. Regardless of how much advertising space they loose, if people didn’t buy this rag then it’s a mute point.
The other question that springs to mind is the timing of the story. Everyone knows Murdoch is after to buy BSkyB, but this story may prevent this from happening. I am not saying that this should happen, but I’m sure a lot of people have been aware of all the phone hacking, and police bribery long before it has been released to the public. I not touting a conspiracy story but more a classic magician trick of ‘look over there’ whilst something else is happenin out of view.
