The nominations are in for this years Mercury Music Awards and yet again it is fantastic that there are bands there that you won’t hear on major channels. I have always felt that this award is actually based on creativity rather than bankability. As you will see from my other page there are lots of bands that noone has ever heard of but can produce the most inspiring and thoughtful music. This is why I hope they don’t pick Adele who has recently complained about all the money she has paid in tax, well she’s not fucking penniless is she; the opportunity to get her music heard is obviously not enough. All the musicians / artists that I have known do it for the pure enjoyment of having the opportunity to play / show their work to people.
In times of recession the arts are usually the first to suffer, and I think it important to let people know that there is more to life than what is presented in front of you by the mainstream stations. The arts, in whatever form is something that should be encouraged from an early age; it’s such a shame when people grow older and lose the creative spirit.
