With the aftermath of the recent riots, it appears that the repriasals by the Government are going to be in the form of innapropriate prison sentences. The press over the last couple of days has been full of stories regarding the length of the prison terms received by those prosecuted, including prosecutions for comments put on Facebook. This is a knee jerk reaction by an inept Government, in an attempt to pacify the public that are braying for blood. The Government are completely out of touch with society and droconian measures will not wash – WE WILL NOT BE FOOLED.
The Government are now overseeing a policy of prosecuting users of social media sites in a hope that this will create fear amongst other users; silence the voice of the dissedents. If the measures are not a knee jerk reaction then the alternative is more frightening; the options being, kicked in the closed mouth or smiling with no teeth! Freedom of speech is nearly always the first right to be suppressed by any authority that doen’t reflect the society it is meant to represent. If the views are by a minority, let them be aired (see previous blogs) and they will fall on deaf ears.
The irony is thousands of our younger generation are currently hoping to get a place at University in order to better themselves by having independent thought!
