With the unveiling of Bristol’s new street art project, it’s raises the age old question of what constitutes the difference between graffiti and street art. I can remember in the 80’s getting really excited by the whole hip hop scene including graffiti; my amazement at seeing Brim (80’s UK graffiti artists) on a daytime television programme. On channel 4 recently there was a documentary about the recent battle between King Robbo and Banksy (is stencil’s cheating), which featured former graffiti artists now getting paid as street artists doing the same thing.
It quite ironic that councils are now paying for ‘street art’, whereas before they used to pay to have ‘graffiti’ removed.
Get well soon King Robbo.
