As the Liberal Democrats gather for their autumn conference, Clegg & co are defiant that they will not agree to calls to abolish the 50p tax rate, despite it having backing from some of the Tories. I hope this is true for the country’s sake, as currently you wouldn’t think we had a coalition, just another fucking Tory Party. In the Independent, leader Nick Clegg said he would demand tax breaks for lower and middle income earners first, but how this would stack up against the pressure from Tory supporters we shall see; their collapse over the policy of student fees doesn’t fill me full of hope for the future.
Similar to the TUC conference, the rhetoric may be right but its the practice that is important.
