The sad fact is, if money is the only reason that Man City are top of the league (inflated wages attracts all players), then surely football will lose out big style. The Premiership title will be a crown of thorns on the crucified body of football (does that analagy work?) and the only players who will win it are those who only care about a massive wage packet and not if they play week in – week out. It’s Championship Manager (although I prefer Football Manger) for rich people. Rich Sheiks are probably getting bored with horses and see football as the new trend. Chelsea bought the title a few years back, and the Glaziers have continually bankrolled Fergusan, now Man City have joined the party that Arsne Wenger has refused to attend.
Is football simply about winning or is it still ‘the beautiful game’? Whatever your view it was still fantastic watching six go past United.
