After speaking with Mr Bone and reading the comments on his blog, it appears evident that the occupy lot do like to pat themselves on the back a lot. Regardsless of the comments self promoting the solidarity they have shown with the sparks in London, the ‘secret gig’ appears evident that equlatity and liberty only applies to those outside occupy. How were the audience chosen (100% attendance and an apple for teacher), random names pulled out of a hat! However you look at it, it feels like the ‘chosen few’ at Occupy have exploited their own position and responsibility – who knows what else may come out of the woodwork. The Workers Beer Company was another organisation that eventually lost sight of what they were doing and became a middle class organisation and only representative of workers in name.
For many decades people have been fighting the class struggle for equality and justice and have seen no reward apart from knowing that they didn’t sit back and be counted. I agree with the comments from Jane that this was an opportunity wasted not only for the occupy movement but for the whole of the class struggle.
I am not part of the 99% (does that make me 1%), I am not part of any organisation that has rules and regulations (it always leads to disillussionment and conflict when peopel have there own personal agenda) but I will always fight for equality and freedom. Lenin believed in the vanguard party (so did I a few years ago) to lead the blinkered masses to enlightenment and look how that ended.
Unfortunately for Occupy one bad judgement can undermine the whole ethos of the occupy community – ‘we are 99% but only 1% saw the gig.’
