I had never heard of the doomsday clock until somebody mentioned it yesterday, whilst I was ranting about leap seconds (how will that impact on the doomsday clock!), and apparantley it is now 5 to midnight. In 5 minutes the world will end………………….oh but only when a bunch of scientists have sat down and discussed what events equate to how many minutes (forward or backwards).

I then thought that whilst everyone is discussing what to do with all the olympic stuff once the debacle is over, the clock in Trafalgar Square could be used as a similar device to the doomsday clock, but representative of how much the government is fucking up the country; midnight being a complete oppressive police state, abolition of all known freedoms, with complete reliance on whatever is dictated to us in form of soundbites, obey, sleep, spend money, kill the weak and the poor etc..

I don’t know what time it should start on (but ten to ten is always cowboy time) or in fact who should decide what time it is, but I can see it becoming a national talking point; newsnight debating the factors that may have caused the clock to change. If the clock every gets to midnight, parliament explodes and we start again as it will be obvious that the system didn’t work. Remeber where you read it first.

But I digress.
