Why does everything have to fir into a convenient category mostly with an inappropriate title. The Sun have their benefit scroungers (most of them earn 100k+ and are not even from this country), the Daily Mail have their anarchists (now akin to an armed militia that could take over a small country in Africa) and then there is music. Oh you all say building up to something so trivial……………..steampunk I ask you. What a shit name for a genre music that owes more to Brecht and Sally Bowles than McLaren or Westwood.
Yes it is alleged that it is a derivative from cyberpunk but even that term was crap – psychobilly worked because it fit with the music. Most music that is classed as steampunk is very cabaret style not at all aggressive in statement or style. I understand the tip of te hat to th esteam era – very classy – but steampunk does not give it justice at all. It just conjours up the image of lots of goths in flying goggles! (I always feel for bands that were labelled gothic – it put off millions of people).
Yes this whol rant has come because of my amazement that The Tiger Lillies are classed as steampunk!
