Up popped a bloke with a stove pipe hat.

South Norwood came together yesterday for the naming go Lake Conan Doyle, despite the councils bureaucratic attempts to stop us. It was real heart warming to walk up the road to the visitor centre and see approx 100 people waiting for the ceremony to begin. South Norwood is a fantastic place to live, even though Croydon Council are doing their best to turn it into their unwanted relation that is locked in the shed, only given the bare minimum to survive.

Yesterday, we, as the South Norwood Tourist Board, helped unite the community for a day of fun and merriment, for that I thank you all.

Just how many ‘Smartheads’ have you got?

will soon be the question on everyone’s lips.

I wouldn’t normally advertise stuff, but the word needs spreading for this wonderful useful item……….and they make me smile.

Yes everyone should support independent art & crafts, especially when they will become the next big thing.

Remember where you read this first.

Well today I am off the see Palace vs Leeds with Pickles the dog! Yes, South Norwood Tourist Board have managed to orchestrate Pickles to grace the hallowed turf at half time. After our interview on Canadian radio and mention in the New York Post, it’s becoming an interesting year already.

As the House of Wax closes so does a little bit of my childhood.

One of the greatest things about going on holiday to Great Yarmouth every year……..no not the opportunity to run over Jim Davidson……but the annual visit to Joyland and the House of Wax. So the people didn’t look like who they were supposed to, apart from Dennis ‘The Black Panther’ Neilson – he was masked, but none of that mattered. The building gave it some sort of elegance and macabre that only Vincent Price could rival.

I do hope the iconic cult status of this museum will help it find an owner. Great Yarmouth council  should take it over, or the local Tourist board.

Famous People who died in Wolverhampton part 1.

vaudeville, Wolverhampton

Hadji Ali (c. 1888–92 – November 5, 1937) was a vaudeville performance artist, thought to be of Egyptian descent, who was famous for acts of controlled regurgitation. His best-known feats included water spouting, smoke swallowing, and nut and handkerchief swallowing followed by disgorgement in an order chosen by the audience. Ali’s most famous stunt, and the highlight of his act, was drinking copious amounts of water followed by kerosene, and then acting by turns as a human flamethrower and fire extinguisher as he expelled the two liquids onto a theatrical prop. While these stunts were performed, a panel of audience members was invited to watch the show up close to verify that no trickery was employed.

Ali died on November 5, 1937, in Wolverhampton, from heart failure during a bout of bronchitis.
