To be kind….

….Viva l’anarchie

Where will I be buried Molly, when I am dead?

With land become a more and more valuable commodity and most graveyards are now full, does any of us consider where are final resting place will be, and do you care. I personnally don’t worry as I want my whole body (no matter how fucked it is) being given to medical science, so the students can have fun! Either that or embalmed and in a glass box and make my children pass me down through generations.

Burial is a strange concept as cremation would save the need for ground but some people are dead (ho ho) against it. Looking at traditions throughout the graveyards are not the only option:

  • Venice has its own cemetery island, where the dead are put in tomps similar to chest of drawers (we could use Isle of Man)
  • The Zoroastrianism religion put the dead on top of towers to be eaten by vultures (the shard)
  • Bo people of southern China hung coffins from cliffs and mountains. (National Parks)

One thing is certain as space becomes more scarce so will the cost of a funeral; it is illegal not to have one and you are not allowed to be buried in your own back garden. As usual the rich won’t have any concerns as options are always open if you have money, cryogenics, transport to space etc. I forsee the return of paupers graves, unmarked mass burial plots for those who cannot afford an alternative.
