Rather than join a gang of fat cats, many people (including Arthur Scargill) argued that whilst a nation cannot stand alone, economically, we should be tying links to Africa and Asia, assisting struggling economies, whilst promoting economic growth.

The Tories chose the easy route and encouraged our links with established western economies, looking at the short term benefits rather than the long game. Lawson’s statement in the Times echoes this sentiment, and has encouraged all to vote no to remaining in the EU should we have a referendum.

Whilst it is also a swipe at the feeble leadership of Cameron and Osborne, the Tories longest serving Chancellor has relented and advocates something that should have been done years ago. Will this encourage more Tories to vote UKIP under Cameron and Osborne?

Mr Cameron, I do believe Boris is in the wings waiting.
