A Labour government will introduce a basic skills test to assess all new claimants for Jobseeker’s Allowance within six weeks of claiming benefits. Those who don’t have the skills they need for a job will have to take up training alongside their job search or lose their benefits.

At what level are they putting the standards – when GCSE came in it was meant to be an exam that nobody could fail, but with league tables, those who do badly don’t even get entered. This is a double edged sword, attacking schools for poor results but threatening to take away benefits if you don’t meet some think tanks standards. There are many reasons why people fail at school not simply on laziness or intelligence.

The tories have sniped that Labour have stole there policy, I would argue that Labour are trying to seal their identity.

The current political system is broken and doesn’t represent those who it was alledged to protect.
