freedom of speech, tory scum

Just as Thatcher destroyed local communities by dissolving the power of local government and centralising things in London – Cameron et al have taken it a stage further and got rid of anyone in a key position of authority if they are not a Tory sympathiser. What a bunch of sneaky underhand fucking cunts!

Baroness Sally Morgan told the BBC she was the victim of a “determined effort from Number 10” to appoint more Tories.

As you can tell this government is keen on freedom of speech – the choice is yours, you can keep a closed mouth or speak with no teeth (either no bite or they smashed them in!)- not really a choice. They are consolidating their position to destroy any social opposition that threatens to oppose them sustaining the social make up that favours the rich and privilege.

Why worry about state schools, shift the responsibility to academies, as ‘those who matter’ will have private education anyway. When it all fails they will step back and say it’s not our fault. Throughout history the Tories have never been a progressive party (they didn’t want women to vote) simply one that favours wealth and social injustice.

Leveson has made his recommendations, and Cameron has ignored them, preferring to believe that they have all learned their lessons and won’t do it again – or is that what he has been ordered to say by the money men?

Freedom os Speech is a fundamental right but not when that speech has involved infringing on other peoples rights.

Hacked Off have arranged a petition for people to register their outrage.

All the music Industry should stand up for Pussy Riot

apathy, censorship, freedom of speech, prison sentence

Music has always been used as a form of expression and a political voice, from Woody Guthrie to Nina Simone to Crass and now Pussy Riot. The difference is Pussy Riot are still in a Russian jail for inciting religious hatred. This is a spurious charge due to the powers that be not liking what they had to say. In a recent concert Madonna has said:

I know there are many sides to every story, and I mean no disrespect to the church or the government, but I think that these three girls – Masha, Katya, Nadya – I think that they have done something courageous.

Athony Kledis form Red Hot Chili Peppers has been seen sporting a ‘Free Pussy Riot’ T – Shirt and Yoko Ono has tweeted:

Mr Putin you are a wise man & dont need to fight with musicians & their friends

Freedom of expression and speech are a fundamental right in the free world and any attack on this should be fought by everybody – if you stand by and watch who speak out when they come for you!

Free the Pussy Riot Three – Trial starts today

freedom of speech, music, religious protest

The trial starts today of the punk band Pussy riot who were arrested 5 months ago for dancing and briefly singing a political protest song in Moscow’s main cathedral, asking the Virgin Mary to get rid of Putin.

Archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin of Russian Orthodox Church has stated:

For Orthodox Christians their holy places, holy objects and holy names are the most precious things in the world. You know very well how explosive were the acts of burning the Koran. And I am deeply concerned about the future of any society in which extremely divisive actions are ignored.

If religion cannot accept that people may have opposing or different views / ideals then we really are living in a backward world. I believe that this is more about the offense to Putin than anything the church may find abhorrent.

buying music, first amendment, freedom of speech, shiver me timbers, SOPA, unlicensed material, wealthy corporations, web host web, wikipedia

On Wednesday, Wikipedia is shutting down it’s english language site for 24 hours to protest against SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act). The new American policy potrays itself as protecting the innocent from harmful pirate websites (no not the ‘shiver me timbers sort’) that can supply counterfeit or unlicensed material, what it is really doing is legitimising censorship. Individuals, web host, web links can all lead to prosecution under this law; the wording is so vague it will encompass anything a lawyer sees fit.  Wait a minute wasn’t the First amendment meant to protect freedom of speech etc, but I’m sure the bill of rights is easily distorted when it comes to a multi million pound industries.

The second amendment is avidly backed by the NRA who are in turn backed by firearm manufactures; and I’m sure SOPA is backed by the movie and music industry. Most people I know who download music or movies, still contribute to that industry by buying music, DVD and going to concerts, cinema’s. I can understand the desire to stop people selling unlicensed medication on line, but surely the way forward is to examine thereasons why people want to do this. Unfortunately to have freedom there are always those who will exploit it, but surely the way to stop it is to educate people not to support it.

SOPA is simply a means for the already wealthy corporations to get even more wealthy without a thought to what the implications may be.  They are no longer content with a controlling influence on political systems, they now want to control cyberspace as well.
