I know the 1972 Olympic games saw a terrorist attack in which 11 Israeli athletes and coaches, a West German police officer, and five terrorists were killed, but I can’t remember any major violent incident since (unless you include all the protesters who were suppressed during the Behjing games). So what are the Olympic Commitee expecting.

Exercise Olympic Guardian is being held on land, sea and air in the London and Weymouth areas between 2 and 10 May; security exercises are going to take place in order to be ready for all eventualities, with surface-to-air missiles will be placed at various locations across the capital. The identified venues are the Lexington Building in Tower Hamlets, the Fred Wigg Tower in Waltham Forest, Blackheath Common, Oxleas Wood,  William Girling Reservoir in Enfield; and Barn Hill in Epping Forest.

However the Ministry of Defence has stressed that the government has not yet decided to deploy ground-based air defence systems during the Games.

What next, nuclear submarines deployed around Britain for retalliation purposes if we don’t get gold in the cycling? Or perhaps the Govt have realised that they are so unpopular that they are expecting attack from all areas whilst in the media spotlight.
