This was sent to all employees at Merton Council today:

Keeping the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games safe

Between 2-10 May UK Armed Forces will be carrying out a series of security exercises overLondonand the Home Counties. This means you may see more military aircraft than usual flying over Merton or nearby.

RAF Typhoon, RAF Puma, Royal Navy and Army Lynx and target aircraft will fly between 4,000ft and 2,000ft above ground level. Some military aircraft may occasionally operate at 1,000ft and descend to 500ft.

Flying activity will take place at times that keep disturbance to a minimum and time flying at the lowest levels will be minimised. On current planning, one of the Typhoon training sessions will take place on 5 May in the late evening, but will finish no later than 10.30pm.

During the Games, RAF Typhoon interceptors will be deployed to RAF Northolt in westLondonand helicopters from the Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force will operate from several sites in and aroundLondon.

All enquiries relating to this activity should be directed to the Ministry of Defence Low Flying and Inquiries Unit: 020 7218 6020.
