Just because it’s not popular doesn’t mean it’s not good! #marlenedumas

The difficulty about anything that isn’t deemed presentable for the mainstream is that it is difficult to come across. It’s usually down to simple economics – those with the money want to keep the money – hence it being hard to break through unless you can break into this monetary circle. The more maligned thinking is that society is never encouraged to think, never encouraged to break away from the masses; democracy is a shallow concept when there is no actual choice.

1Marlene Dumas is an artist that is not palatable to a mainstream audience (probably due to her subject matter), but her paintings make you think. I can look at a Turner and appreciate at what a fantastic technical accomplished artist he is, but Dumas makes you question as a cold chill creeps across the back of your neck.

Following on from my last post, social media can never replicate the emotions that you feel when looking at certain art, simply because they are difficult to put into words. The Guardian describe it as ‘Bold, graphic and disturbing’ but thats only because it’s art – if she hadn’t ticked the right boxes they would probably describe it as sick, perverse and offensive – but thats just the fickle Guardian for their middle class readership.

With music, film, politics, literature and art – it’s very difficult to come across anything that has not had the leading authorities put their filter on what is deemed acceptable for society. Anyone who pushes the boundaries is usually classed as an enemy of the state and all that is good and pure, and all forces of the law are used to prohibit anyone witnessing it.

To Be Kind……….Viva L’anarchie………

Dumas

John Dwyer’s Thee Oh Sees have something different about them which I think makes them stand out from a lot of garage bands. Again another band whose records don’t truly encapsulate their live performances.

Andy Heinz – He’s not a lot of men.

It was sad news yesterday to hear that Andy from The Men that will not be Blamed for Nothing, has been diagnosed with cancer. This was posted on their Facebook page.

I have always been a big fan of Andy’s, through Creaming Jesus, chatting to him about Far Side club nights at the George Robey, and CJ playing Storm Constataine’s wedding and now TMTWNBBFN.

Speedy Recovery Andy

“NECK LUMP UPDATE star date 10.4.14

PLOT TWIST…..

When i said i fancied taking on a new challenge, this was not exactly what i had in mind….

It is cancer.
It is malignant.
It has spread from my tonsils to my lymph nodes.
It IS treatable
It is not necessarily a death sentence.

I have to undergo 6-8 weeks of daily Radiotherapy and possibly Chemo and then take some months to recover.
I may have to have teeth removed.
My throat may close up, my saliva turn to a mucus consistency, I may not be able to swallow and I may have to be fed through a tube direct into my stomach.
I will definitely have to shave off the beard as they have to make a plastic mould of my face to help target the radiotherapy.

It will be fucking horrible, but I will survive it.

On the positive side, it is still localised in my throat and not spread to my lungs etc at the moment, so I have caught it fairly early (though i am FUCKING LIVID that my GP didnt send me straight for tests FIVE WEEKS AGO when i first showed her – prefering to put it off till she got back from her holiday)

Also, it is not on my vocal chords so i should be able to sing once i get out the other side of this shit.

And, it won’t half help with losing this weight to ease my Diabetes.”

We appreciate your support, and we will be back better, fitter and stronger than ever with a new album before you know it.

George Osborne probably would be good friends with Jerry Brown / Pete Wilson.

Brits, Extreme Noise Terror, KLF

I put this up every year but it’s very difficult to find it (The BBC have pulled any video of it). Remember a time when the KLF were popular and invited to open the Brits…………..many walked out and it changed the face of the brits forever.

Priceless

I don’t know, i’m really confused, am I really old, has the world changed that much in what they perceive as talent. I could handle when I was a teenager when my elders said the sixties were better (even then good bands were ignored), but now they all (yes I dare say it) they sound the same.

What a load of bollocks! (I note Throbbing Gristle haven’t got a lifetime achievement to music award)
