Malcolm X summarise revolution.

Malcolm X, revolution

You don’t have a peaceful revolution. You don’t have a turn-the-other-cheek revolution. There’s no such thing as a nonviolent revolution. The only kind of revolution that’s nonviolent is the Negro revolution. The only revolution based on loving your enemy is the Negro revolution. … Revolution is bloody, revolution is hostile, revolution knows no compromise, revolution overturns and destroys everything that gets in its way. And you, sitting around here like a knot on the wall, saying, “I’m going to love these folks no matter how much they hate me.” No, you need a revolution. Whoever heard of a revolution where they lock arms, singing “We Shall Overcome”? You don’t do that in a revolution. You don’t do any singing, you’re too busy swinging. It’s based on land. A revolutionary wants land so he can set up his own nation, an independent nation.

Perhaps a new revolutionary industry that Britain could get involved…….if they are not already.

It is actually a title of a Coil album, but I thought it made a good post title………almost a question for philosophy or economic students?

Lenin and James Connolly – great minds think alike.

I have also been interested in Irish History, especially in its impact on other events throughout history. It is only when you realise the influence that the struggle in Ireland had that events today can be put into context; the Union jack in Belfast isn’t just about the flag.

I was surprised to read today that Lenin was actually influenced by James Connolly and his writings and eventually execution in the Easter Rising 1916. It reinforces that the whole world were aware of the Irish situation and what was perceived as Anglo oppression especially by the Anglo Bourgeoisie.

As the left has virtually imploded (the death of the SWP), and something new needs to come to the forefront. However, with a many headed beast, it takes a whore of babylon to control it and steer it in the right direction or it simply pulls itself apart.

Don’t dismiss Lenin with the likes of Trots and Stalinists – lets look to the Irish makeup!

Upper to middle classes saw tea as dangerous as whiskey!

Social reformers in Ireland in the 1800’s believed that peasant women who enjoyed a cup of tea would become a problem and potentially revolutionary as they were neglecting their social duties of preparing meals for their husbands etc. Tea drinking was seen as a ‘habit’, thought to be addictive and cause illicit longing, even likened to membership of a secret societies that would rebel against English rule.

Research in Durham have studied numerous pamplets and leaflets from the period and believe that fears were also generated outside Ireland.

I don’t know if it is a coincidence but George Osborne is the heir apparent to the Osborne baronetcy (of Ballentaylor, in County Tipperary, and Ballylemon, in County Waterford) – I wonder if his ancestors were invloved in outlawing tea for working class women?

Martin McGuiness to meet the Queen

It has been touted as a landmark between anglo-irish relationship; a one time general of the IRA to shake hands with the figurehead that represented the British oppression of Ireland. It’s ironic that Britain gained most of it’s empire through bloodshed and imperialism, with the monarch’s condoning and encouraging most of it, but when the Irish have fought back over the years is seen as an act of treason.

As Egypt and Libya are experiencing new found freedoms after successful overthrowing the existing oppressive regime, Hague and Cameron applaud it, but when we are considered the oppressive regime what happens then.

Come the revolution………….

Will the Revolution be televised?

apathy, ballot box, brick, revolution, television

Does the emergance of the internet, facebook, twitter, blogging etc have a direct correlation to the deminishing interests in demonstrations or direct action. It is fantastic that it has become so easy for people to air their views or philosophy but what is the point if you never leave the house, and actively back up your point of view on the streets.

Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me

This is what we were always told growing up; radical writing is essential to get people politicised; open their eyes to the reality of what is happening out there, shedding the scales from their eyes so to speak; the skill in analysing a piece of information to see what it doesn’t say and how that may effects you, but the revolution will not be televised if noone turned up.

Apathy is the common enemy no matter what your politics, but if you have children it becomes even more important to stand up and be counted. How will the youth of today learn about fighting for a just and fair way of life if their parents can’t be bothered?

The age old question arises between the brick or the ballot box, but often important issues don’t make it to the ballot box if there is no brick!

Is George Osborne simply a revolutionary?

double dip, george osborne, john maynard keynes, my way, olympic fever, revolution, treble dip

Perhaps George Osborne thought it would be too easy to solve the economic problems; create jobs and growth which in turn would secure people’s financial well being. Oh no, George is ignoring tried and tested policies that are based on sound economic theory by John Maynard Keynes (if you look after the growth of business, a deficit will sort itself out), and other econmic scholars. George is revolting – I should end the sentance there really – against the system, he has just doesn’t understand that normally a revoltion is meant to free people from oppression and hardship not force them into it!

Yes we are in a double dip recession, but there is no Plan B, further cuts will be introduced, that deficit must disappear. You cannot get out of debt by simply not spending any money, you actually have to earn some – as you see this is where the issue is George hasn’t done a days work in his life (unless you count his days being buggered as a fag!). Olympic Fever is obvioulsy taking over our George who is taking his role as Chancellor very serious and is obvioulsy going for a treble dip or a quadruple dip recession, (bigger and better that a double dip), something never achieved before – not even by Norman Lamont.

It’s all Labour’s fault, no, wait is the Euro crisis no, hang on everybody else economies are slowly growing, that’s it you either don’t know what you are doing or simply sticking two finger up to everyone else and stating “I’ll do it my way”. Lets face it you don’t have to worry about your own financial well being.

A holographic revolution may emerge.

So they have created a holographic image of Tupac to entertain the masses even though he is dead, so what about recreating all the great Revolutuionary leaders to appeal to nation to throw off our evil shackles of capitalism. Imagine Lenin and Robespierre organising the overthrow of the monarchy; Michael Collins and Buenaventura Durruti to plot the overthrow of the establishment.

The thought of this has actually brought a smile to my face……oh what could be. Remember where you read it first.

Why Stephen Heston’s decision to waive his bonus demolishes the view that banker’s bonuses are fair.

bankers bonuses, finance sector, public backlash, revolution, stephen heston

I heard the arguement last night that the reason the public think banker’s bonuses are unfair but have no objection to footballers wages is because most people believe they could work in a bank! Pretty flimsy to me and it attempts to justify the bonus structure for workers in the finance sector. To me there are two reasons why the bonuses are unfair and should be outlawed:

They are given regardless of performance, economic situation

Most people who get them DON’T need the money

Stephen Heston has waived his bonus, good on him (he should donate more of his wealth to needy causes) but I bet the other bankers are cursing him. By refusing this bonus he has confirmed that either he doesn’t deserve it or is frightened of the public backlash (quite right) or both. This sets a precedent for other bankers, who will stick their neck out and stand up in these times of recession and say ‘I bloody well earned that money on top of my already ludicrous wages’. Yes Mr Heston works for a bank that is owned by the taxpayer but I’m sure every taxpayer doesn’t mind people being paid a fair market rate just not one that the greedy wankers have given themselves.

Whether or not he meant it (I’m certain he’s only trying to save himself and hasn’t thought about the consequences) the precedent has been set………let the revolution commence.
