Just because it’s not popular doesn’t mean it’s not good! #marlenedumas

The difficulty about anything that isn’t deemed presentable for the mainstream is that it is difficult to come across. It’s usually down to simple economics – those with the money want to keep the money – hence it being hard to break through unless you can break into this monetary circle. The more maligned thinking is that society is never encouraged to think, never encouraged to break away from the masses; democracy is a shallow concept when there is no actual choice.

1Marlene Dumas is an artist that is not palatable to a mainstream audience (probably due to her subject matter), but her paintings make you think. I can look at a Turner and appreciate at what a fantastic technical accomplished artist he is, but Dumas makes you question as a cold chill creeps across the back of your neck.

Following on from my last post, social media can never replicate the emotions that you feel when looking at certain art, simply because they are difficult to put into words. The Guardian describe it as ‘Bold, graphic and disturbing’ but thats only because it’s art – if she hadn’t ticked the right boxes they would probably describe it as sick, perverse and offensive – but thats just the fickle Guardian for their middle class readership.

With music, film, politics, literature and art – it’s very difficult to come across anything that has not had the leading authorities put their filter on what is deemed acceptable for society. Anyone who pushes the boundaries is usually classed as an enemy of the state and all that is good and pure, and all forces of the law are used to prohibit anyone witnessing it.

To Be Kind……….Viva L’anarchie………

Can you change your own sense of self – there is hope for UKIP voters

What the fuck, another homophobic, racist, misogynistic self centred cunt elected by people with probably the same values. Emily Thornberry resigned over her tweet that has had her labelled a snob – this is where values become fucked up. UKIP say we need to talk about immigration and the issues it causes, but what about talking about the UKIP voter that usually voted BNP or EDL – to me thats not snobbish just common sense -if the BNP & EDL were wiped off the face of the earth it would be a good thing. This isn’t snobbish just evolution – how has UKIP become the face of the working class, it isn’t, just the face of bigoted thick cunts who haven’t evolved over the last century, nothing to do with working class. I have been to Rochester and one of the first thing I noticed was that their were more St George’s cross flags on display with EDL emblazed all over them. The more society evolves the less aggressive and more tolerant it should be.

I see anarchy as the point at which society has evolved and progressed that people do not need to be told what to do, as they see everyone as an equal.

I am working class and ashamed to have my class associated with such ignorance – however there is hope – a chance for people to lose their own sense of their own self an become tuned with another person.

The wonderful undescribable feeling of hearing something new.

John Dwyer’s Thee Oh Sees have something different about them which I think makes them stand out from a lot of garage bands. Again another band whose records don’t truly encapsulate their live performances.

A wonderful collection of medieval art? A challenge to Richie Lamy!

Just like music art can be dull and uninspired, although technically good, but then it can be also inspirational, exciting and sinister.

Can anyone name the artists of some of this bizarre medieval work?

Wedekind’s Lulu as presented by The Tiger Lillies

Lulu, a sexually-enticing young dancer who rises in German society through her relationships with wealthy men, but who later falls into poverty and prostitution, as depicted in  Erdgeist (Earth Spirit, 1895) and Die Büchse der Pandora (Pandora’s Box, 1904) by Frank Wedekind, has been transformed into a musical macabre stage show by the Tiger Lillies.

Anyone who is aware of the Tiger Lillies work will know that this is a common theme for Martin Jacques to turn his attention too, and by all accounts the perfomance is amazing. I can’t wait until it come to London.

Luca Palazzi an artist you should look up.

Just like music, its not hard to be introduced to ‘populist’ artists as well as the classics, but it is difficult to see new art by anybody else who doesn’t fit this category. I was recently fortunate to come across a painting by Luca Palazzi, so when I looked further to see more of his work I was absolutely amazed. You can’t beat finding art that inspires you, so you can imagine how excited I am that Luca has invited me to see his work at his studio when I get to Rome.

Check out his work (click on image).

save our skatepark, SOS

Dear supporter,

This is an urgent call to action, as we have unexpectedly entered a major state of emergency regarding the Southbank undercroft.

On Monday December 1st, the Southbank Centre completely fenced off the entire skating area for what they claim are “essential repairs”, suspiciously just days after submitting their new planning application for the undercroft users to be relocated to a site under Hungerford railway bridge.

It has also been reported that their security guards have been attempting to stop members of the public from taking photographs and videos at the scene.

Please help us by submitting your objections to this new planning application, by following the instructions located beneath the image in this link:

If you have a Facebook account that you can log into, we would also appreciate if you could share this image and encourage others to submit their objections too.

Thank you,

Skylon / SOS Resistance
