#Idlenomore is spreading further:

As Attawapiskat Chief Theresa Spence enters her third week on a hunger strike outside the Canadian capital building, thousands of protesters in Los Angeles, London, Minneapolis and New York City, voice their support. Spence and the protesters of the Idle No More Movement, are drawing attention to some deplorable conditions in Native communities, and recently passed legislation C-45, which sidesteps most Canadian environmental laws. “Flash mob” protests with traditional dancing and drumming have erupted in dozens of shopping malls across North America, marches and highway blockades by aboriginal groups across Canada and supporters have emerged from as far away as New Zealand and the Middle East. This weekend, hundreds of Native people and their supporters held a flash mob round dance, with hand drum singing, at the Mall of America, again as a part of the Idle No More protest movement. This quickly emerging wave of Native activism on environmental and human rights issues has spread like a wildfire across the continent.

cambridge bumps, class war, June 16th protest, protest

Tomorrow is the long anticipated class war protest against the hegemony that is Cambridge University. The impetus for the protest was Mr Asbo, who has had his wings clipped and moved away from the area he had made his home; rowers on the river felt he was a danger so he was removed.

Cambridge has always been classed as one of the most prestigious Universities in the world, the main problem is that obvious inequality of backgrounds of the students that study there – the working class are an endangered species. Even if you do get the opportunity to study at Cambridge, how wealthy you are will soon have you put in your place by those where money isn’t an issue. Lavish parties, evening wear, summer in the bahamas – if you are a working class person it will be an alien world and how long would it be before you are alienated by the many.

Cambridge represents everything that was and still is, wrong with the world – an equality based on wealth.

MARCH FROM SENATE HOUSE TO UNIVERSITY BOATHOUSES    11am  CAMBRIDGE SATURDAY

What on earth are they expecting to happen in the Olympics?

1972 Olmpics, Olympics, protest, surface to air missles

I know the 1972 Olympic games saw a terrorist attack in which 11 Israeli athletes and coaches, a West German police officer, and five terrorists were killed, but I can’t remember any major violent incident since (unless you include all the protesters who were suppressed during the Behjing games). So what are the Olympic Commitee expecting.

Exercise Olympic Guardian is being held on land, sea and air in the London and Weymouth areas between 2 and 10 May; security exercises are going to take place in order to be ready for all eventualities, with surface-to-air missiles will be placed at various locations across the capital. The identified venues are the Lexington Building in Tower Hamlets, the Fred Wigg Tower in Waltham Forest, Blackheath Common, Oxleas Wood,  William Girling Reservoir in Enfield; and Barn Hill in Epping Forest.

However the Ministry of Defence has stressed that the government has not yet decided to deploy ground-based air defence systems during the Games.

What next, nuclear submarines deployed around Britain for retalliation purposes if we don’t get gold in the cycling? Or perhaps the Govt have realised that they are so unpopular that they are expecting attack from all areas whilst in the media spotlight.

Squatters rights protesters were arrested after clash with police outside Parliament. It was reported that about 150 protesters turned up to protest about the criminalisation of squatters, then the masses of officers arrived looking to break up the protest.

Scuffles reportedly broke out between demonstrators and police, with officers using batons and loud hailers in an attempt to break up the crowd.Campaign group Squatters Action for Secure Homes said hundreds of police flooded the streets of Westminster and used “kettling tactics against those involved in the protest. Some protesters were held in a police cordon and Scotland Yard confirmed at least 12 people were arrested in connection with the incident.

It has also been reported that up to 65,000 people could potentially become homeless due to the continuing recession.

Policies that the Government are making are only to protect the continued wealth of the minority whilst the majority of us carry on struggling.

golliwog, golly, protest, robinsons, sutton

Sutton has been rocked by the news that ‘Memory Lane’ shop is selling Golliwogs. The comments on the website are worth reading through. It does appear that a lot of people who see nothing wrong in it are over 70,

There are certain things that shouldn’t really resurface or should go away – for example the term ‘paki shop’. It’s just an expression but a fucking racist one at that. Robinsons jam saw that the Gollywog or the revised Golly could never be used as a successfull advertising campaign once we became enlightened. There are certain images that will never regain the innocence they once had before they became politicised. Take skinheads, yes it may simply be about the music but so long has it been associated and directly linked to the far right that it can never be truly retrieved. Ask any non white person how they immediately feel if they see a group of skinheads.

Political Ramifications from association of images can be long lasting and never forgiven.

Thanks to my wife Lou for pointing this story out for me.

Set in concrete, neck tied to gate – let battle begin.

Dale Farm, dale farm eviction, prejudice, protest, Travellers, united nations

These are the tactics that are being employed at Dale Farm. Two people have had an arm set into a large barrel of concrete, and there has been a notice put outside the gates that a woman is attached to the gate by her neck; any attempt to open them will snap her neck. Tha balliffs are at the gates of Dale Farm, and there task will not be easy; denounced as unlawful by delegates of United Nations, and mass support from Travellers from all around Europe, Basildon council maintain their stance.

The spokesperson for Dale Farm has stated that they are willing to go but they need a place to go. Well you can’t say fairer than that. Apparently there is a plot of land in Cambridge owned by the council that would be suitable, but Basildon have yet to turn up to negotiate with the Dale Farm representatives. It reinforces the view that this isn’t about Greenbelt issues but simply prejudice against the travellers.
