evil tories, hegemony, RMT, strike, Union

If (when) people start moaning about the inconvenience that the tube strike will bring from 9pm tonight, just remember two things:

It is meant to cause inconvenience and as much disruption as possible

Be thankful if you work somewhere, that isn’t cutting jobs and services.

People never seem to understand that losing a days money is difficult for a lot of people but being united is something more important. If you join a union you need to stand up and be counted when called upon, it is the only thing that gives it strength; together we stand, divided we fall.

The Tories don’t just hate unions, they hate communities and any opposing group that may present itself as a united front to any policy that they wish to bring in. Unity is something that is the Tories enemy – they promote individualism and centralisation of policy. Entrepreneurship was about the understanding that you would be quite happy to stab your brother in the back if required – wait didn’t Ed do that to David!

This is why the Unions should form their own political party and challenge the hegemony of Etonian Oxbridge politics.

TUC Conference is a fitting start to the ‘P.O.’ (Post Olympics)

civil disobediance, General Strike, strike, teachers

Now the business of running in circles and throwing things very far has finished we can all refocus on getting out of the economic depression the world finds itself in, with Britain failing to make any headway. Whilst all the ministers are applauded the wonderful games, they are also looking at what services can be dismantled, privatised or simply blown up in order to reduce our deficit, and yet again there is no talk of growth.

Speakers at the TUC conference so far are united in supporting all strike action and civil disobedience in order to shake the blinkers from the Governments eyes – don’t play the game by their rules. The fact that the TUC has taken such a confrontational manner is commendable in itself but to also condone and promote subversive actions is fantastic.

Another ‘Winter of discontent’ will do more harm then good some may say, but what option do you have when they are happy to kick you when you are down. A General Strike is the only way to make them listen – cripple all the public services to reinforce how much in life people take for granted.

Close the schools – upmost disruption as people can’t get to work – but support your school if they strike and don’t moan about the inconvenience. Parents should let the teachers know that they support any strike action they may undertake.

Cameron stated ‘we are all in it together’ well we are – united against Tory Scum.

To end with the immotal quote from Bob Crow:

If you spit on your own, you can’t do anything.

But if you all spit together, you can drown the bastards.

South African miners continue to resist and refuse to fade away.

miners, south africa, strike

More than 1,000 striking South African miners are demonstrating at Lonmin’s Marikana mine, where police shot dead 34 of their colleagues last month. Dozens of police have arrived at the scene while a helicopter hovers above the protesting rock-drill operators.

One man at the front of the column waved a placard reading “We want 12,500 or nothing else” Another protester said the demonstrators were heading to Lonmin’s nearby Karee mine to “take out the people who are working in the mine shaft”.

Surely Lomin must realise that increasing wages is cheaper than fighting a strike and the business disruption it brings. As comrades have already died for this cause this will not or should not simply fade away.

Now I know why I don’t but the Sun – Toby Young encourages Govt to sack strikers.

Olympics, redistribution of wealth, strike, Unions

As Immigration workers at Heathrow airport prepare to strike the day before the Olympic ceremony, you will hear lots of propaganda how Union bosses are rich fat cats bent on disrupting the country and won’t lose a penny of their money; how the ballot only really represents a small minority of union members; Toby Young in the Sun today saying all workers should be sacked if they strike and disgrace out country.

I say:

  • Union bosses do work tirelessly to stop exploitative capitalists screwing the working classes – a fair wage for the shit that they probably have to go through, often fighting actual Government policy – it is not a easy or a simple 9 to 5 job.
  • If a majority of the union didn’t vote, that’s their problem – the Tories aren’t stepping down because only 20% of the country actually voted for them
  • As far as sacking workers goes – just like Reagan did – Reagan was one of the most right wing politicians the world has known and may have taken the world to a nuclear war with Russia. I do hope that Toby Young finds himself in a job where he is screwed mercilessly by his employers and then is sacked when he tries to stand up for his rights.

It’s easy to piss on people when you live in an ivory tower!

Olympics, scab labour, strike, Unions

Members of Aslef train driving union have scheduled industrial action for 6, 7, and 8 August, right in the middle of the Olympics, as East Midlands Trains’ plans to reduce both its own and staff contributions to its pension fund from July.

In this age of where your state pension age is increasing and the Govt are encouraging you to have additional pension what a fucking stupid thing for East Midland to do. Of course the strike is going to be in the Olympics – minimum effort, maximum chaos. They talk of National Pride but what about national pride of respecting our workers.

Solidarity to all the workers on East Midlands trains and remember:

Let’s create chaos and blame the strikers says Cameron

petrol shortage, strike

Cameron has said that people should fill up in case of strike action. He could have said that people should take alternative transport or use your car less, but now he has encouraged mass panic buying which has seen many petrol stations run out of petrol. What is worse – a petrol shortage or a perceived petrol shortage!

The Government will play on your fears so that the public turn against those who are just standing up for their rights and have used a legal democratic process in doing so. As people argue at the pumps and curse the tanker drivers for making us paranoid and vulnerable, god damn people’s rights and the inconvenience it causes.

ASLEF, Bob Crowe, Olympics, RMT, strike

Whilst the TUC are advocating that all public sector unions to undertake strike action to add weight to their cause, negotiations between ASLEF, RMT and London Underground have reached an agreement to encourage staff to work all additional hours during the olympics. A one off payment of £500 will be paid to anyone willing to work, with various other payments being offered. In other words ‘please don’t strike’.

The whole worlds eyes will be on this country during next summer and it’s an ideal time for groups / unions to organise, and let their issues be known. Lets not sweep the country’s problems under the carpet, let them be paraded in front of the world’s media. I thought Bob Crowe would have made more out of this opportunity.

Barber attacks David Cameron!

Brendan Barber, riots, strike, TUC

Unfortunately this isn’t a story about a local working class barber taking vengeance upon Mr Cameron, it is Brendan Barber, the lovable (?) TUC leader, denouncing Cameron’s response to the riots:

A society that ranks among the most unequal anywhere in the developed world; where a super rich elite have been allowed to float free from the rest of us; where a generation of young people are growing up without work, without prospects, without hope. Rather than addressing the complex long-term factors that lie behind the alienation – the poverty, the lack of social mobility, young lives stunted by hope denied – they have instead reached for simplistic cliches about moral decay.

And yet as they have retreated to Victorian language about the undeserving poor, they have said nothing about moral disintegration among the rich

Unions are no longer as strong as they used to be as industry in this country has declined; the public sector now represent the majority of union membership, and Mr Barber will need to get everyone on board in order to attack the policies of the Tories and prove that the TUC is not toothless. There is a need to call a general strike, but whether or not it would be supported is another thing; to lose a days money can be crippling for some people.
