How do we choose what country to criticise and should the Olympics be political.

Olympics, pro gay, Russia, snowden, tolerance

Russia is under scrutiny for it’s oppressive attacks on t’s gay community which appear to be condoned in recent legislation…….but why Russia and why now? This is something that has been happening for a long time and whilst a blind eye hasn’t exactly been turned, it has now come to the forefront.

There are many countries who human rights record is unbelievable – China, islamic countries, African nations (many have anti gay laws) – but Russia is at the forefront, why? Is it Stephen Fry…..is it Cameron talking about the boycott of the Olympics…….or is it that Russia has just granted political asylum to Edward Snowden….could be. First Obama cancels a summit meeting with Russia and then all the media is talking about boycotting Olympics due to Russian intolerance to the gay community.

Then we should the Olympics be used to send a political message? No-one will ever forget the black power salute by Tommie Smith and John Carlos in 1968, but that was their issue and there was no onus and anyone else doing something similar. If the anti gay policies of Russia need to be fought, then they should be done en masse by heads of state, or by the public from within. If political statements are left to the individual athletes to make, what does that say about those who don’t make a statement. The games will become a media circus of who condemns Russian policy and for those who just simply want to concentrate on what they have trained for all their life, this will make them an advocate by default.

I don’t personally see the point of the Olympics but if a political stance needs to be made then it should be done by by the UK Olympic Body. Just as with cricket, in the apartheid era, and football throughout the world – should sport be used to make political points, and if so is it fair to leave to individuals who just simply want to run fast.

EDL plan to embarrass London with their protest in East London

Or an alternate title would be is how to make friends and influence people.

The rise of the right is persistent if nothing short of pathetic. Anyone watching Jamie Reids London modern Babylon will see how multicultural London is – full of Londoners. Ethnicity is generations old that people are simply Londoners no matter what the colour of their skin.

It is the EDL that are an anomaly, a minority in the mix of everyday Londoners.

Jeremy Hunt promises that Tourism WILL flourish as a result of the Olympics as anything that wasn’t nailed down is on e-bay!

Despite predictions that tourism has suffered due to the 2012 games, Jeremy Hunt has explained that we shouldn’t just be looking in the short term but the long term effect that the games will have. He has boldy predicted that an increase of 4.2 million visitors will visit these shores in the future.

I think he has his stats confused as he probably means that ebay has received 4.2 million bids on Olympic stuff that is now for sale – from Mary Poppins hats to a hanky that Wiggins wiped his nose on – people ar ebidding mad.

Greed I think is the word that embodies the Olympics, whether its the increased prices that put the tourists off or the clamber to make a fast buck on anything ‘Olympian’ that can be sold.

With the Olympics out of the way the Cameron et al can go on holiday and think of new ways to destroy this country.

As the leading MP’s jet off to whatever luxurious location, news breaks that if the recession continues, a lot more businesses are looking to downsize; a maths campaign group raising concern about the proposed changes to maths curriculum, suggesting it’s unworkable.

Whether it’s the immediate future of employment, or the future potential learning and employment of our youth the Govt are not addressing the issues at hand. It’s the problem of having priviledged people run the country, if they are crap at their job they can rely on there trust fund / inheritance to support themselves.

Parliament should be in session now not fucking off on holiday. They should be investigating how much the Olympics cost us and the implications this has, as we all know the revenue raised by the Olympics is not the same as that which was predicted – telling us how the shortfall going to be accounted for. Being an MP shouldn’t be a job it should be a way of life – continually striving for the good of your constituency.

As people get their redundancy and begin the depressing process of signing on, they can rest assured that our country can run, cycle, row etc better than we thought they good.

Do anybody know the UK medal breakdown between class & education. How many gold medals have the working class from the inner city in comparison to Oxbridge Etonian suburbanites!

Spice Girls reformed (why), Madness, Brian May, Blur, Ed Sheeran, Jessie J & more – which apparently is indicative of British Music and therefore this country. They are even going to play the Sex Pistols and the Clash (I pray that Mick Jones isn’t going to lower himself). Apparently there won’t be a dry eye in the house when they play John Lennon’s Imagine – yes vomiting makes my eyes water as well!

What about all the other bands that really shaped the British Music scene Hawkwind, Bauhaus, The Fall, Lonnie Donnegan (yes I know he’s dead), Joe Meek. This country is very good at pretended that anything different to the accepted norm doesn’t exist.

At least the line up is representative to the tone set by the Olympics – FUCKING CORPORATE SELL OUT.

How the fuck can a body not be found for a week, and let the main suspect slip away. My sympathy with her mum.

But at least the Olympics have run smoothly!

flooding, media, Olympics

I realised that there doesn’t seem to anything happening at the moment apart from the Olympics. I am really impressed that Boris and Lord Coe have managed to put the world on hold whilst the Olympics happened so there was nothing else to report on.

Wait a minute didn’t I see that hundreds of people have been flooded out of their homes across the country…………no wait perhaps that was a dream!

Whilst they all pat themselves on the back for such a marvellous Olympics, will they address the fact that noone else is coming to London – the greed of business’ wanting to cash in, and the constant warning that London will be overcrowded has had the opposite effect.

Forgive me if I don’t get upset when the circus leaves town.

Why Bradley Wiggins winning is more important than just another gold medal.

ego, Olympics

As Bradley Wiggins celebrated his gold medal last night he won’t know how happy he has made me. Why I hear you ask – I have no affinity to any of the Olympic sports – because it means that Steve ‘ego’ Redgrave won’t be continually wheeled out to bleat on about how he is Britains greatest Olympian. No doubt Sir Ego will moan that using a bike is not as hard as rowing because there are no tides so perpetual motion helps you a great deal more.

and now the Canal Boat people are being screwed by the Olympics

Canals, exploitation, Olympics

It turns out that British Waterways have put up the price of all the moorings 15 miles around the Olympics, but provided no additional services. Talk about exploiting the situation. All the canal boat owners who normally moor on the Regents canal or in Little Venice will either have to pay the astronomical price or be forced to moor elsewhere.

Talk about bastard absentee landlords – I thought there were laws against exploitation of this kind. these Olympics are going to be renowned for their failure due to the greed involved in organising them.
